Furry Fashionista

I used to scoff at dog owners who put bandanas or sweaters on their furry friends. Now I’ve become one of those people. My kids ridicule me ruthlessly. When I included Ruby’s cute little mug on the back of my Christmas card, it really sent them over the edge. Hey, she looked adorable sitting in front of the poinsettias with a red knit scarf with a white pom pom ball wrapped around her neck. I don’t know what they were complaining about – they were on the front of the card, and she was relegated to the back.

Ruby likes her scarf. She sucks on it like a pacifier and brings it to me if it falls off. She tolerates the sweater. The jacket is another matter altogether. If she sees the jacket, she hides under the table. I purchased it to keep her warm during early morning walks. I guess she’d rather brave the cold…naked.

Some friendly dog owners in my neighborhood created a fun canine community. Most of us are empty nesters, and we enjoy the companionship of a fuzzy buddy. One pup is a doggy influencer with over 90K followers: bentley.boy_shihtzu. His family is heavily involved in a broad array of charitable projects. Several others have trained their dogs as service animals so they could provide comfort to patients at hospitals and soldiers on military bases. Never underestimate the power for good of a furry fashionista.
