Blind dates can be a pleasant surprise or your worst nightmare. A friend setting you up with someone they think would be a good match instills a greater level of confidence than a blind dating app match. After all, your friend knows you well and wants only the best for you. However, it doesn’t always work out as anticipated. When I looked online for humorous blind dates to potentially include in my stories, I discovered a veritable bonanza.
In one instance, a new coworker offered to set up an officemate with a friend. She described him as having similar interests, and he sounded like a good match. The officemate got dolled up for the evening with high hopes and expectations. She sat in the restaurant counting the minutes and eagerly anticipating the arrival of her blind date. When she heard a rustle of fabric and felt his presence, she looked up…into the face of her ex-boyfriend.
Another occasion involved a blind date that was arranged through a friend of a friend. The frustrated woman said that her date did NOT STOP TALKING the entire time. And didn’t ask her a single question. She just sat there mentally playing her favorite songs in her head until the bill came. She thought he might just have been nervous, so she gave him another chance. But the same thing happened over the phone. She fell asleep for 15 minutes, and when she woke up, he was still talking. At that point, she cut her losses and declined another date.
One college-age woman was anticipating the arrival of a blind date. When he knocked on the door, she thought he looked a lot older than she’d expected. She reluctantly headed toward his car. Luckily, before they took off, she unraveled the crossed wires. Slight miscommunication. He was there to pick up her younger sister for a babysitting gig, not to take her out on a date.
Do you recall any cringeworthy blind dates that you’d like to purge from your memory? They’re almost a rite of passage.
