Dating Disasters and Catfishing Catastrophes

In case you can’t tell from the title, I like alliteration. It rolls off the tongue. I also like clever puns, good jokes, and humorous tales. It must be in my DNA or have something to do with my upbringing. My mother’s favorite section of the newspaper was the comic strips page, which she would share with me. Most of the news is online now, and the digitized “Sunday funnies” just don’t have the same allure as the print. My father had a dry wit and creative turn of phrase. He was usually reserved, so it was always a fun surprise when he spouted a pun.

To infuse my writing with humor, I decided to include scenes about mischievous children, animal antics, and dating disasters. My goal was to create lighthearted stories about murder and mayhem. That may sound incongruous, like a veritable oxymoron. A funny whodunit? However, the cozy mystery genre boasts many such humorous tales.

My husband and I have been married for over forty years, so I haven’t dated since the days of the dinosaurs (according to my kids). Back then, we met in person or through friends. It was “BC” – Before Cell phones, so no dating apps.

I looked online for anecdotal tales of dating disasters in the modern era. I discovered a broad array of postings. Some of the tales were absolutely hilarious. Of course, I wasn’t the person suffering through the miserable date. Other stories were totally outlandish and unbelievable. It was entertaining reading, even if some of the posts were probably pure fiction.

I welcome submission of your dating disaster tales of woe. I’m also open to meet-cute stories. Send them via my contact page…and you just might see them posted online or included in a book!
