Flower Girls and Furry Ring Bearers

This section of my blog is categorized as “Kids and Critters.” My son’s wedding included both. Two granddaughters, ages 3 and 4, served as flower girls. They happily donned fancy dresses with fluffy full skirts that swished and swayed as they danced their way down the aisles, scattering rose petals like raindrops, leaving a white carpet in their wake. They gleefully twirled in their finery, like Angelina Ballerina, enjoying their brief moment in the spotlight. A child can be a wild card. You never know what they might do or say. It was a bit of a gamble to incorporate the spunky sprites into the ceremony. Nonetheless, we rolled the dice. Fortunately, they were an adorable addition to the wedding party. They proudly pranced to the front, evoking broad smiles from the guests.

The ring bearer was 5 years old…and a dog. In reality, the pooch was probably less of a loose cannon than the kids. The bride teased that my son was only interested in her because of her cute puppy. Hallie is a sweet-tempered mini goldendoodle with curly red hair. She was fitted with a pillow to which the rings were securely attached. Hallie happily strolled over to the bride and groom, dispatching her ring bearer duties without incident, gladly swapping the rings for a scratch behind the ears. It was fun to watch my granddaughters and “granddog” in action during the wedding ceremony. It’s a special memory that I will always hold dear. But, I have to admit, I exhaled a deep sigh of relief when their responsibilities concluded without any major mishap or meltdown!
