Me and Ruby

First.Blog.Ever

This is my very first blog post. I’m a newbie, a novice, so go easy on me while I find my sea legs. In the past, I haven’t been very active in the social media scene. I’m what’s known as a “social media lurker” – hovering in the background, checking out other people’s posts and pics, but rarely posting my own. But, like it or not, that’s about to change.

I’ve always enjoyed reading cozy murder mysteries. I like the challenge of figuring out “whodunnit” without the gore that gives me nightmares. Hallmark Movies & Mysteries are just my speed. With the encouragement of my family, I finally carved out the time to write my own mystery manuscript. After receiving input from my beta readers and editor, and several rounds of revisions, I sent my baby out into the world.

I got lucky and landed an agent. I felt like I’d won the lottery. I handed off the baton to my agent to continue the publishing relay race and carry the book to the finishing line. I thought I’d completed my part when I’d penned “The End” at the conclusion of my mystery novel. But I was wrong. Dead wrong.

Apparently, in this day and age, aspiring authors are expected to actively participate in social media to interact with readers and market their books. And I thought all a writer had to do was write. So, it looks like I’m going to have to stretch waaay beyond my comfort zone into the murky waters of social media. Send a snorkel…and some chocolate.
