My books incorporate dating disasters into the storylines to infuse the tales with humor. Some humorous incidents are based on personal experiences, others are spawned from stories posted online, and yet others spring from my fertile imagination. Below is an excerpt from a scene in one of my books. Lexi is dining with her roommate, Elle, and asks about a blind date:
“Last week, I agreed to meet a guy at an Italian restaurant. He looked cute in his profile pic, and we shared a lot of the same interests. When I arrived, he was already seated at a table. I sat down and we ordered our meals. The conversation was stilted, and my date kept glancing around the room. I followed his gaze to an older couple in the corner. Then the bells chimed, and a statuesque woman waltzed through the door. He gave her a slight nod as she passed. The food was good, but the date was awkward. It turned out that the elderly folks were his parents, and the woman was his sister. The restaurant was owned by his grandparents, and family members streamed by throughout the evening. He wanted their opinion…of me. I felt like a bug under a microscope. Apparently, I passed inspection because he called and asked me out again. But I politely declined.” Elle rolled her eyes.
“Or else he was arranging round two of the interviews,” Lexi teased. “You might have missed out on meeting his long-lost cousin.” Elle balled up her napkin and tossed it at Lexi, who ducked and laughed.
Pretty sneaky. Has anyone else been ambushed and run through the wringer on a first date?
