Happy New Year!

Best wishes for a fabulous new year! The past year flew by with frightening speed. It seemed like the days flashed and faded into the distance in not much more than the blink of an eye. Where did the time go?

At the end of the year, people often become retrospective – reviewing the events of the year and their life. What did I accomplish in the past? What are my future goals and resolutions? We may also reflect on fond memories and the people in our past.

My New Year’s Eve celebration has changed in time frame and format over the years. As children, we giggled as we drank our sparkling cider and toasted as we watched the ball drop in NYC, giddy about staying up past our bedtime. As teenagers, we graduated to youth dances and neighborhood parties. Boys would try to strategically guide girls under the mistletoe to steal an innocent kiss. Girls would knowingly evade their shenanigans, tittering about the boys’ thwarted efforts. Breakfast would be served at midnight by bedraggled chaperones to the youth who were gleefully out past curfew.

The next chapters of life opened and closed: college students, newlyweds, young parents, youth chaperones, etc. The tables turned and we changed hats and stepped into the shoes of our parents. Time marches on. Now, several chapters later, we find ourselves advanced into the role of grandparents. Our bedtime gradually ticked backward along the way, so it’s probably more closely aligned with our grandchildren than our night owl children at this point. We are back to happily toasting the ball drop in NYC, rather than staying up until midnight in San Diego. Life has come full circle.

Whatever your stage of life and however you celebrate New Year’s Eve, I hope it is a fun and festive conclusion to the year. Happy holidays! Wishing you peace and prosperity in the New Year!
