Hotel California

“Welcome to the Hotel California…Such a lovely place…Plenty of room at the Hotel California…Any time of year…You can find it here.” The Eagles sang our theme song. San Diego is a great vacation spot. We’ve served as “Hotel California” for lots of friends and family members over the years. It’s been a fun and easy way to stay in touch. They come to us.

Our kids have told us that we can never move. They like using our house as home base while on vacation. San Diego has a temperate climate with mild weather year-round. It’s a great place to escape from the summer heat or winter cold. Plus, the beach is always a big draw. Sun, sand, and sea. The perfect trifecta. There are many water sports in addition to surfing and boogie boarding. Visitors can leisurely sail in the bay, snorkel in the cove, kayak in the ocean, or stand-up paddle board in the waves. Or, for those who feel the need for speed, there is jet skiing, waterskiing, and wakeboarding. And for the truly adventurous, there is kitesurfing, windsurfing, and parasailing. During lobster season, you can scuba dive for your dinner.

If you want to stay dry, you can hike in Annie’s Canyon or the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve or one of the other scenic trails in the area. You can also visit the San Diego Zoo (or Safari Park), Legoland, or Sea World. There are innumerable fun family activities.

My stories are set in San Diego and incorporate some of the local landmarks. Likewise, some of the regional activities are interwoven into the storyline. Hopefully, the real-life foundation will help the tales take shape and come to life for the reader.
